The 2023-24 season is going to packed with fantastic symphonic band literature. How exciting it is to perform fine musical styles from marches, Broadway, patriotic, movies, television, orchestral transcriptions, the classics, big band and popular music. There’s always something our audience is familiar with and fond of.
Please join us for our concerts at our new location at the RJ Murray Middle School of the Performing Arts; 150 North Holmes Boulevard; back home in downtown Saint Augustine!

Saint Augustine Concert Band
The Saint Augustine Concert Band (SACB) was originally established back in the early 1900’s with a small military style band of about 16 members. Unfortunately, as the years went by and with the impact of the depression, the band eventually disbanded in 1950. Over the years there were a few attempts to form a local community band but nothing ever survived long-term.
Today, after nearly 65 years of dormancy, the 60 member Saint Augustine Concert Band is back in full force. Members range in ages from 20 to 80 including amateurs and semi-professionals from all walks of life. The band was re-formed in September of 2015 under the baton of Maestro Geoffrey S. Magnani, who retired in Saint Augustine from New York State. There were 32 members in the initial group but over the years the membership has blossomed to 60 and still growing. The goal is to offer instrumentalists in Saint Augustine and surrounding areas an opportunity to play in a band that is based in the city known for its rich heritage, culture and history. Members come from as far as Jacksonville south to Palatka to play in the band.
With the strong prevalence of the arts in Saint Augustine, the city finally has its very own concert band back!
Donald Jeanes received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Illinois State University in Music Education. Following his graduation, he became a member of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C. While in the Navy Band he performed with the Honors Band, Concert Band and the ‘Commodores’ Jazz Ensemble.
Also, during this time, he received his Master Degree in Performance while studying under John Marcellus, Principal trombone with the National Symphony. Don taught in the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia. During his tenure he was a member of the VMEA, MENC FEA and NEA. His ensembles were selected to perform at the Virginia Music Educator’s Association Conference and the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Don has served as clinician and adjudicator in the Mid-Atlantic region for many years. We are extremely fortunate to have Don join the Saint Augustine Concert Band in this new capacity as we continue progressing forward with fine Concert Band performances. He and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 36 years and are enjoying retirement here in Saint Augustine, Florida.
Under the direction of Geoffrey Magnani and a dedicated executive board, the Saint Augustine Concert Band is flourishing in Saint Augustine.
It is through the generosity of our patrons and donors that we can continue to provide the area’s finest concert band performances that feature all styles of music.
