Don Jeanes

Mr. Jeanes received his B.S. in Ed. Degree from Illinois State University in Music Education in 1970.  While at Illinois State he was principle trombone in the Orchestra, Concert Band, and Jazz Ensemble. 

Following graduation, he became a member of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C. from 1970-1974.  While there, he performed with the Honors Band, Concert Band, and Commodores (Jazz Ensemble).  Also, during this time, he received his M.M. degree in performance under John Marcellus, principle trombone with the National Symphony.

He began his teaching career in Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia where he taught on all grade levels.  During his twenty-seven-year tenure, he served as President of the Fairfax County Band Director’s Association and was a member of the VMEA, MENC, FEA, and NEA.  His ensembles received Excellent and Superior ratings at state, regional, and national assessments.  His ensembles were selected to perform at Virginia Music Educators’ Association In-Service Conference and The National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He retired in 2003.

His performance credits include the Capital Wind Symphony, (where he was on the Board of Directors), Fairfax Wind Symphony, Burke Brass, and several jazz groups in the Washington, D.C. area.

He has served as clinician and adjudicator in the Mid-Atlantic region for many years.

Mr. Jeanes continues to compete in State and National golf tournaments.  He and his wife Sharon have been married for thirty-five years and are enjoying retirement together in St. Augustine, Florida.
